We're the Only Ones Fortunate Enough

"The officer was fortunate that he was able to defend himself," the chief said. "This officer had a secondary weapon that very likely could have saved his life."
And if he hadn't been an "Only One," he wouldn't have been so "fortunate," would he?

I'm just wondering when that's finally going to sink in with Wayne. Possibly because there are so few voices calling him on his inexcusable endorsement of "gun free school zones" he doesn't feel enough pressure. And that's probably because, with the way things are, calling to repeal localized bans will only scare "normal" people, so it's not pragmatic to even talk about it.

There are numerous reason why I'll never join the NRA. This idiocy is one.

trevor, I was a member and quit because of their betrayals.

On the other hand, the incident is a fine example of why a 'magazine disconnect' on a pistol , currently required on new handguns sold to "civilians" in California, is idiotic.

Silvia Carrillo, whose daughter is a sophomore at Roosevelt High, said the shooting did not seem justified.

"My son and my brother went to school here too, and nothing like this ever happened. I think this wasn't enough for him to kill the kid," she said.

Aside from the fact that I wholeheartedly approve of strict scrutiny of all "Only Ones" activities, based upon reported facts, I have to give this one to the LEO. The kid didn't threaten the officer with the bat, the kid HIT HIM FROM BEHIND, like a cowardly, gutless bushwhacker.

I know that if a 6-foot 250 lb teenager came at me with a ball bat, it would be a case of: "I see your bat, and raise you .45. Tough luck kid."

Me too, Gaviota.

My only beef here is that the law only recognizes the self defense option on school grounds for its own.

Gaviota,
Depends on what the LEO was doing, or had done. Was the officer in question threatening someone? Had the officer in question raped the kids sister, girlfriend etc...?

It could be a good shoot where an innocent man was attacked by a bat wielding thug or it could be a situation where a gun wielding thug escaped some righteous retribution. We just don't know.

"As the student came at him a second time, the officer grabbed a secondary weapon — a semiautomatic handgun he carried as backup — from his ankle holster and fired one or two rounds, Dyer said."

Most of us aren't even allowed to carry a primary weapon, let alone a secondary one!
