Chi-Town Sanity

Gun control hasn't worked as a remedy for crime. So what makes anyone think the answer is more gun control?
Rational thoughts from a member of The Trib's editorial board!

This is the kind of editorial that ought to prompt positive feedback from gun owners--so they know that similar future offerings will be well received.

Excellent and thoughtful editorial.

Thank you for taking the time to lay out the irrational gun control argument for what it is; ineffectual knee jerk legislation that can only negatively effect the inherently law abiding.

What a refreshing article, well said indeed.

Going through the comments (300 or so with 97% + pro gun rights) I found this anti gun rights comment that I thought perfectly encapsulated the anti gun argument/ mindset.

Just once -- just one time -- I would like to hear a gun defender say: "You know I don't think gun control will work but we have to DO something. If just one gun is prevented from doing harm to someone, then count me in." Instead, gun control advocates have to stand by and watch the carnage. There is no easy answer of course -- but until you can find the potential for doing harm inside someone's mind and prevent it at that point, gun control is what little control citizen's have in this world. We don't have any other method for preventing harm to others. You will never get me to understand why a non-criminal gun owner would want to save their right to own one over the life of an innocent. What is it about guns that you have to have them -- when all they do is produce this violence? You will never be able to explain how a gun is more important than a life. Shame on you. "

Funny how their minds work eh?

How's this for a chilling statement:
"There is no easy answer of course -- but until you can find the potential for doing harm inside someone's mind and prevent it at that point, gun control is what little control citizen's have in this world."

It's always been about control.

This was my message to Steve:
Just saw your article and wanted to give you a big thumbs up. Mainstream media needs a lot more thinking people like you.

I just sent this email.
I came across your column on David Codrea's "The War on Guns" blog and I commend you for writing such a rational article on the fallacy of gun control laws in dealing with violent crime.
