First Person Shooter

Property owner Billy Jackson shot and killed two men who he said were trying to rob him.
And in spite of the fact that the police said it was self-defense, Mr. Jackson would do well to zip it and let a lawyer do his talking for him.

Honest people have a tendency to be open and candid because that's just the code for living life and dealing with others. I hope for his sake this is not used against him, because I see several things here (that I won't point out) that could be more than problematic.

If you ever need to defend yourself, get a lawyer and let him be the one to tell your story. I hope this man does not end up injured because he does not know this.

unreal. i wish he wouldn't call the dead perps gentlemen.

good shoot though. one man vs. two thugs.

I bet $5 they won't prosecute him. He would make too good of a witness. He needs to stop talking about where he keeps his ccw though.

The "gentlemen" thing struck me too, and I seem to hear it all the time.

You have to call them what they are. Thugs. This guy is going to make a great witness IF they take it to trial. However, it's a media war as much as it is anything, so you want to make sure you portray the bad people as thugs, and not gentlemen. If they were gentlemen, they wouldn't have robbed you at gunpoint.

AaaaayyyyyyyMEN! It's better to spend one or two nights in jail (and be ready - it's not unlikely that you *will* be threatened with that by the "nice" officers who "just want a statement.") than try to be cooperative and spend years there instead.

Do what the Only Ones do when *they* shoot somebody...shut up and lawyer up. You won't get the week or ten day courtesy period that they give each other, nor will you get the gentle questioning and investigation that they share, but the basic concept is still sound. Let some unemotional and unattached SOB make your statements for you.

Infamous Oregon Lawhobbit is dead right on, and I would add that in addition to NOT talking to the cops without a lawyer, NEVER talk to the press! Not then, not later, and not ever! If you think the police are good at deception, misdirection, and psych-games, you should spend some time with a reporter.

The reason for this stricture is the fact that there is no statue of limitations on murder. Even if the cops, the DA, and the grand jury no-bill this guy today, double jeopardy does not apply. If he was to reminisce about this ten years from now with another reporter, and an aggressive new DA listened to the interview and decided to use this case to make a name for himself, the poor old guy could find himself in the slam charged with murder at the age of 80.

Am I right, Lawhobbit?
