The conclusion of a chapter in Mike Vanderboegh's upcoming novella, "Absolved"...
Good thing it's raining. Looks like I've got more reading in store for the weekend.

Don't forget http://westernrifleshooters.blogspot.com/2008/06/vanderboegh-poor-white-boys-depot-camp.html

which is the beginning of the chapter (Probably Chapter 4 as envisioned) of Poor White Boys.

I'm curious to know if anybody can guess the two or three other main plot devices which intertwine with "the Kingman Project" and "the boxcar" to come together at the end. Think of how strengths can be turned into weaknesses and "vicey versey" as they say in Winston County. ;-)

Any guesses?

One more thing, and this is a major point of the whole exercise:

There are no utterly "obsolete weapons." A crossbow of the 14th Century can kill a man as dead in the 21st. The only thing ever truly obsolete are specific tactics. Use an old weapon in a new way and you can be as deadly effective as your imagination can take you. And another thing, as the character Robert Hawkins says to Jake in one of the last episodes of the first season of "Jericho," -- "Guns? Guns are easy." There are, I believe, many more guns in this country than are officially believed. When push comes to shove, the only things we may be short of are brains, will and perhaps ammunition. We will nonetheless win. We have no choice.

Excellent!

When the novel is ready, I'll be one of the first customers.

Thanks Mike.
