It's Common Sense

"Handgun violence is on the rise, but taking guns off the streets will help to stop the senseless slaughter of our citizens," said Sen. Sandra Bolden Cunningham, D-Hudson. "It's common sense."

New Jersey would join Virginia, Maryland and California as states that restrict people to buying one handgun per month.
And we all know how much safer Richmond, Baltimore and Oakland are because of it.

Why, it's common sense.

I can just see the aborted alley transaction now: "Sorry, man, I can't buy that stolen piece from you--I already bought one last week, so I need to wait another three. It's the law."

As someone who lives too near Richmond, I can vouch for the total ineffectuality of this law on the daily death toll inflicted by CRIMINALS. It IS a handy way of making note of who buys guns legally through FFL dealers, and who is likely to have a .. er, COLLECTION. The violent death rate in the city remains about the same. The authorities haven't pushed for more "common-sense" gun control LATELY, but they haven't restored any rights either. The prisons still have their revolving doors. Thanks for stopping by.
The Virginia State Police records section administers the Brady Instant Check and one-a-month. VSP, you may recall, provided this legally-protected confidential information to ATF and local police in a preemptive strike at a gun show in nearby Henrico County. There have been no consequences to them that I'm aware of. They continue to lobby the General Assembly for more gun laws.

Interesting that a lot of these pieces now contain a single sentence from the opposition. This is a new and interesting development. In this case, Scott L. Bach thankfully gets to make a point.

However, Sen. Cunningham gets to use a bunch of meaningless buzz-phrases. Will she get a pass? What is handgunviolence? Does this refer to the natural rise to crime that happens ever summer, or should we take it literally? (In which case it makes no sense.) What does she mean by "taking guns off the streets"? What are they, sitting in piles? Are they being sold out of carts, by street-side vendors?

It always seems that big cities are involved in the push for senseless gun control. New Jersey isn't composed TOTALLY of urban areas. That's where the crime is, because the officials refuse to punish the violent in any meaningful way. "Long criminal record," "well known to police." Most heinous offenders have those on their resume. The prisons are crowded with nonviolent offenders. It's a setup. A setup for totalitarianism.
Gov. Jindal of Louisiana was a guest on the Glenn Beck show. Jindal comes across as an ardent constitutionalist, but he has OKed New Orleans continuing using National Guard troops to supplement the police THREE YEARS after the Katrina Konfiscation debacle. That's rewarding not just INCOMPETENCE, but political MALPRACTICE.

"Common sense" is often wrong.

It's common sense that time is a constant of nature, but Einstein proved that was not true.

It is common sense that the sun goes around the earth, but we have known that isn't true for centuries now.

It is common sense that the Universe is not random, but quantum physics has shown that it is (though the randomness adds up to predictible events macroscopically).

So calling for "common sense gun laws" is just another way of shaking your beads and rattles at a problem that we already have the solution to: a universally armed population.

Common sense does not seem to exist in our government any longer. Not when It comes to gun ownership. What part of "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." do these people not understand? I'm sick and tired of politicians trying to restrict my rights, 'for my own good.' There must be a common sense ban in washington and our various state legislators. People just close their eyes to the reality of what the worst cities in America all have in common. They all restrict gun ownership in some way or another. This creates a more embolden criminal who can be sure his/her victims are unarmed.
