Les Misérables

Four Boise teenagers — three females and a male — are facing felony burglary charges after Meridian police say they they stole $45 worth of items Monday at Wal-Mart....

Stowe said it can be hard to prove intent in many shoplifting cases, so those suspects are usually charged with a misdemeanors. He said the officer in this case felt he had evidence to support the felony charge.
Yeah, I'd say none of them deserves to ever be able to protect themselves again for the rest of their lives. That sounds reasonable.

I wonder if this "Only One" has factored in what creating desperation does to the chances that people with nothing to lose will often violently resist?

Wouldn't happen in Kentucky. Here as long as the items stolen are under a certain amount (well above $45) it is always a misdemeanor. Unless they try to fight the store personnel who stop them. Then it becomes armed robbery.

The law for shoplifting in Idaho is I believe over $300 however the cops charged these kids with felonies because they said the kids had intent to steal before entering the store. So they are no being charged with shoplifting but "burglary".
The Meridian cops in the valley here in south-west Idaho is becoming known for the speed trap city and anything else the law enforcement parasites can do to keep the greenbacks coming in. My personal hunch is this is nothing more than a way of making it look like they deal with a lot of felony criminals for the spread sheets to soak the taxpayers for more money.
Getting at the heart of these felony charges is nothing other than parasites self serving actions. This has nothing to do with protecting the public, but everything to do with growing government in an area that serves these parasites.

This is why I support Guns for Felons! It is a subsection of Guns for Everyone, which is necessary for a free society. You and I can deal with the violent ones later.

Psychic cops! If he knew they INTENDED to steal, why didn't he prevent it?

This is very dangerous.

Then again, is that girl smirking in her booking mug shot? That's always a bad sign. Those types usually graduate to actual felonies. But there *I* go, seeing INTENT.

Chicago cops in civilian clothes are jaywalking to see who obeys the law giving pedestrians absolute right of way and who doesn't. One step off the curb means traffic has to stop. I'm sure that's never abused by walking people.
Violators get pulled over and given a "warning ticket." For now.
Chicago PD is just SO busy fighting violent crime.

Don't convicted felons lose their right to vote as well?

Pity that they would lose voting rights before they even had a chance to use them.... whatever a vote is worth these days.

Shoot, even the dead vote in Chicago...
