We Just Don't Understand It

Mell argued that reopening gun registration wasn't just a personal favor. He insisted that there were hundreds, if not thousands, of otherwise law-abiding Chicago gun owners just like him who had inadvertently allowed their gun registration to lapse.

On Friday, Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Monique Bond was hard-pressed to explain the slow response to the city's one-time offer.

"Either the public is unaware or they just haven't had an opportunity to come in and register," she said.
Or it could just be that Mell was, you know, lying, and this was naked abuse of political office for personal advantage, and no amount of lame excuses spokesprevaricators regurgitate will cover that up.

Not that they need to.

Forget it Jake. It's Chi-Town.

Maybe they're just confused. For example: is it a requirement to register a Marksman Model 2000 BB pistol?

Doubt it.

What the hell is with all those illegal infringements to register a firearm?

No wonder it has such a high crime rate with all the crooks in office helping the street thugs with the Criminal Protection Act (a.k.a. gun control).

Let me get this straight...
You think that it's actually possible for a politician from Chicago to be "lying"??
OMG, that can't be so! I mean, after all isn't Obama a politician from Chi...oh wait.
My bad.

Maybe the $60 fee per firearm (3x the usual amount with no 'bulk' rate---2 to 10 for $25, 11+ for $35) has something to do with the poor showing.

The U.S. Justice Department is saying there was politicial influence in the illegal hiring practices of U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. I remember anti-gun Va. Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty was called up to the big leagues on his watch.
How they feel about our gun rights is how they feel about ethics and right and wrong in general. Many just haven't been exposed yet.
A New Jersey legislator has resigned after being charged with possession of child pornography. I wonder whet his stand on the propoed one-gun-a-month was.

Anyway, the Chicago registration "opportunity" was bad timing, after everyone saw DC jump backwards through hoops to DENY hopeful gun owners the ability to register their handguns. It has to be done in person, with the police taking custody of the gun to copy serial numbers and obtain a fired bullet for their database. Where do I sign up???
I have to wonder: If you already HAVE the gun and you're only allowed to have it in your home, what are the chances of being caught with it unregistered?
Unless, you know, IT comes around. The Big It. And then the police will be too busy to arrest people for a simple paperwork omission. I gare-on-tee.
