An aspiring Savannah rapper who was shot and later died was committing a crime when it happened...Not that I want to draw any unwarranted conclusions here...
The robbery victim shot Grant in self-defense...
Grant, a father of five young children with another child due in December, died of his injuries on July 25.
Y'know, if only they disarmed you and me, this kind of stuff wouldn't happen.

I would guess many attackers have other aspirations in addition to being aspiring bad guys. Why was it newsworthy?
"aspiring rapper" allows the writer to avoid saying unemployed black criminal. And sounds almost sympathetic to the poor young dead guy. Awww
