We're the Only Ones "Blessed are the Peacemakers" Enough

The Richland County, South Carolina Sheriff's Department...just obtained an armored personnel carrier, complete with a belt-fed, .50-cal turreted machine gun. Sheriff Leon Lott has charmingly named the vehicle "The Peacemaker," and insists that using a caliber of ammunition that even the U.S. military is reluctant to use against human targets (it's generally reserved for use against armored vehicles) will "save lives."

I think when "Only Ones" have them they're called "patrol vehicles."

Yo, Leon: Why the need for "weapons of war"?

A fifty caliber belt fed machine gun turreted armored personal slaughtering vehicle has no place in civil law enforcement.

Unless of course they plan on going to war against the People.

That M113A4 pictured in the background shot, used to be my office. Ditto the M2 on top. Once, when my driver and I had been driven too far with no sleep, we crashed through a half-stone barn in Germany, all the way to the other side, mit chickens and straw going everywhere. 150,000DM in manuever damage. Have engaged many armoured targets with the M2, at more than 1,000 meters. Them cops better be good at maintenance, that M113A4 needs a lot of it. Oh, the armour is 1" aluminum, and .30cal. goes right through it. Fuel tank is in the right rear, easily ignited by armour piercing and incendiary rounds. If proper headspace and timing are not done regularly on the M2, it will jam and misfire. Not to mention regular cleaning and lubrication. Lots of practice is needed to use the M2 effectively. The vehicle has deadspace 10ft. to its' rear and 6ft on the left and right. It is very vulnerable to Molotovs, and can be heard approaching from miles away. In fact, it is so noisy, that the crew often has to resort to hand and arm signals to make themselves understood to one another. If the drain plugs and belly plate are not properly secure before entering water, it will sink. If the transmission is not set to the lowest gear when swimming the vehicle, the trans. self-destructs. It has a range of about 310m. and a top speed of about 32mph. It also can be stopped by throwing soap into the clean air intake, at the right front on top.

Ya can't go wrong with a 13 ton go-kart. If you take off the limiter - or just have an older one with a worn limiter - you can go bombing along the German countryside at 45+mph, easily.

And the .50 cal is not just "reluctantly used," it's prohibited for use against humans by the Geneva Conventions and Hague Accords.

Not to mention that's a "cupola," not a "turret." But I wouldn't expect Reason to know that. :D

Bar soap or liquid soap?

Oh, and yeeeesh. This is rediculous. And we'll hear that "they need it to keep up in the arms race against drug dealers and criminals using assault weapons."

Liquid soap. Straw will,,er..ah,,do it too. I would be pleased to have to go up against one of these things.Once neutralized, it would have a demoralizing effect on the non-armoured ones. Not crazy about the idea of using Molotovs? Throw wine bottles filled with ammonia and/or bleach on to it. Makes it uninhabitable. Drano works too.

"Always with the negative waves, Moriarty."

C'mon guys, look at the bright side. The government has been nice enough to disperse M113s, Ma Deuces, M16s and M14s out into the provinces. This way, when the SHTF, we won't have to raid a military base to have such toys.

And did you know they use mortars and recoilless rifles for avalanche control out west? Every ski resort worth its salt has one.

Oh, yes, in-deedy. I love it. The Law of Unintended Consequences. Unrepealable, unamendable, and ironclad. ;-)

Said Sean: "Them cops better be good at maintenance, that M113A4 needs a lot of it."

Yeah a local police department got one, used it for parades and now it's deadlined with a blown engine or tranny or both, depending upon who you talk to. And they had an experienced ex-treadhead for a driver.

Tons of Police Depts have tracked/armored vehicles. I've seen some at a refurb. site in GreenBow, ALA. w/county name and all.

"They must come out sometime. That is when we shoot them with our obsolete antique rifles."
-- Some partisan somewhere.

If they don't break them first, it sounds like we'll have many veterans who can operate them. Very nice. The rest of us can read the manuals so as to be competent crew.

Good to know all that stuff, Sean. Where did you pick it up?

The cops ARE preparing for war with the People. The Constitution means nothing to the Neu Vorldt Order.

This mythical ban exists only in your mind.

(Not that I think cops have any business being armed with these weapons, but I am sick of hearing this old canard endlessly repeated).

Picked it up in the US by G*d Infantry, Mechanized, Rangers. Sometimes while catching some rays, drinking some wine. You know, I like to think I can get out of trouble as fast as I got into it. Anywho, while cross training with the bedamned SF, they pointed out and trained us on things unconventional. Ditto with the Rangers. Also learned how to take out tanks,on foot, how to nullify air superiority, and in general make the local elephant very uncomfortable. In the mold of our loyal opposition in RVN. It is true, sometimes your enemies are the best teachers. III.
