We're the Only Ones Paternal Enough

An off-duty Chicago police officer shot his nine-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son in the head before shooting himself to death in their home on Monday. The girl also died while the boy was critically wounded.
Yeah, he was the "Only One"...

Forget it, Jake, it's Chi-Town.

This is a man who went postal because (I'll make the leap) he couldn't get a fair day in court. The deck was stacked against him and he snapped. Never mind this shit happens to millions of men who weather it out and do the best that they can. This asshole wanted to punish his ex so he killed the kids. What a piece of shot and a coward.

Shooting his kids was about the most stupid thing he could have done. Maybe he is too conditioned to realize who his main enemy (the state) was.

Like IPD officer Jody Webb who blew his brains out in front of his wife and one of the kids.

He was the high strung cop who wanted to disarm me cuz I was attending a neighborhood meeting at a church. He didn't.

Authoritarian on the street, authoritarian in the home. Maybe the mother was concerned for the children's emotional health and sought custody. As authoritarians often do, maybe he decided "If I can't have them, nobody's going to have them." It happens to people who try to leave abusive relationships, every day. The ultimate expression of people-as-property.

we'd have people like this even if we didn't have socialized police forces. it's just that they wouldn't be walking among us with the presumption of innocence and totalitarian authority.

those who behave incapably out of fear and do not arm themselves deserve the society they build around them, but it is unfortunate that we all suffer for it. particularly the wholly innocent.

it's obvious to me that government is a vestigal social organ. and so if it will save just one life ...
