Another Violent Gun Control Advocate

An aide to Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick filed a police report Thursday claiming Monica Conyers, the short-tempered City Council president pro tem and wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, threatened to get a gun and shoot him at a city pension board meeting.

But a spokesman for Conyers says she was the real victim in the hubbub.

According to the police report filed Thursday by DeDan Milton, an assistant to Kilpatrick, Conyers "threatened to shoot (Milton) with her gun" and made "several aggressive movements" toward Milton "in a threatening manner."
Gungrabbers all. And remember when classy Monica got in a bar fight?

What a coincidence. I just got done emailing a link to this article to Texas Gun Nut after he sent me a link to SexyDanTheLovinMan and asked me about my posts on violent anti-gunners. I was going to cover ol' sexy Dan tomorrow, but this story came along, plus I see Say Uncle already beat me to it.

No wonder they don't want us armed--they think we'd act like they do, and that's gotta scare the hell out of them.

NIU Shooter: Raw Info

This is stuff I'm just grabbing as fast as I can. I have a few comments interspersed, but for the most part, treat these as raw links for future exploration.

He was off his meds. Why is that absolutely not a surprise?

The story tells us he was "a member of the NIU Academic Criminal Justice Association." It is affiliated with the American Correctional Association.

Their website was down briefly and I thought I was going to have to do Wayback Machine screen captures. Now I see why. They replaced their officer's page to delete his name (VICE-PRESIDENT: STEVE KAZMIERCHEK).

With his interest in corrections, and the club's stated Constitutional goal of:

Providing information about career opportunities in corrections, social welfare, intervention, law enforcement, probation/parole, and other professions addressing the sources, processes, and contexts of social offense...
it is not unreasonable to speculate on whether or not his career interest was in either becoming an "Only One" or training future ones. With his interest in "peace and social justice," code words associated with the political left, and noting his academic work in sociology, it does not seem unreasonable to speculate about where his political sympathies lay.

Here's the criminology paper he co-authored. Actually, it's an overview--you need to pay for the article itself. No thanks--I don't care that badly. The gist of it will come out in the next few days.

Make of this stuff what you will.

UPDATE: I see Thulsa Doom has chimed in. With the above information, I'm wondering if we might be dealing with a member of the Cult of Set...

I feel that I'm committed to social justice...

Crazy stuff--no idea if it is reliable or just noise...

We're the Only Ones Top Modeling Enough

A two-time Mexico City "policeman of the year" has been arrested on suspicion of extorting money from illegal "car-watchers" who demand tips for curbside parking.
Ah, Los Unicos!

Why does this remind me of Eddie Casales from "Police Squad"?

The McHenry Resolution

[A] grassroots effort to get Illinois counties to state their support for the Second Amendment has come to local soil.

Members of the McHenry County Board on Tuesday will decide whether to approve a resolution stating their opposition to any legislation that would infringe upon the right to bear arms. Essentially an advisory statement, the proposal is meant to send a message to state legislators about the constituents’ views on gun control laws, said Nick Provenzano, chairman of the County Board’s Law & Justice Committee.

His group approved it, 6-0, to applause from a group of gun advocates.

Here's the resolution.

Per Les K, the board will meet this coming Tuesday, so McHenry County gun owners should give them a call.

Why not do it right now? And spread the word? And leave a well-reasoned comment at the title link's Northwest Herald article?

If I lived there, I'd also plan on attending with other supporters.

Come on, Illinois gun owners. What are you, too busy?

UPDATE: Resolution postponed after NUI shooting. Contact the Board to find out when they plan to introduce it. If you told anyone about this and they planned to attend, you probably want to call them off pending a reschedule.

Live Like a Refugee

From ChareltonHest:

Here is what seems to be a tragedy in how a gun-owner is run out of the country due to the indoctrinated hysteria that "higher education" is injecting into students. That's the way I see it at this point. I've been following this since I first saw it posted on ARFCOM, and here is what I know so far...

This concerns a one Robert Walker II ("Buddy Walker"), student (former student that is) of Marietta College in Ohio. Basically, he is a gun enthusiast who was found to have 3 weapons and 1k round of ammo in his car on or near college grounds (seems an officer spotted a barrel). His car was searched, unfortunately at his consent. And then a his grandmother's home where he was staying, again with consent, where more weapons were found. The guns were displayed on TV, Mr. Walker was suspended permanently, and ultimately charged with a 4th degree felony concealed weapons charge.(1)

What is most upsetting is the hysteria surrounding this whole non-incident... In articles like "MC Students React to Discovery of Weapons"(2) and "Authorities find guns in MC student's car"(3), students are shown assembled in a meeting, some still in pajamas, being fearful, talking about "Virginia Tech", demanding the college keep them safe, and one woman calling out that Mr. Walker should "never come back". One local attorney and gun enthusiast had this to say: “This seems like it is a tremendous over-reaction. This week I’ve seen prayers on campus and kids afraid to go on campus..” -Bill Burton(4).

Both police and the college are saying there was no threat or "sinister plot". The Washington County Sheriff, Larry Mincks, said it was a "storage and transportation problem" and that Buddy is a "gun enthusiast"(4).

The background on this student, as reported in the news, is that he has only one past charges against him -a concealed weapon charge- for leaving a 9mm handgun in his glove-compartment(5) (So?) and he was on police radar because an "anonymous informant" had sent a picture to them showing Mr. Walker with a firearm while at a party(6).

Well, the last we know about this, is that it seems Mr. Walker has fled the country...probably to Madrid, Spain where his parents live. "'If he would be located in Spain, it's starting to involve the State Department, the US Attorney's Office and the probability of an extradition back from Spain is probably pretty remote for an F-4 violation,' says Sheriff Mincks." Endangering Lives One Bullet at a Time

The 2008 Legislative session has begun, and the Ammunition Accountability Act is being introduced across the country.
This is like watching cancer metastasize.

If you live in a red state and haven't done anything to fight this, what in tarnation are you waiting for?

The CNN Vigilante

I would reiterate that CNN's characterization of Citizens United as one of the "fringe militia" groups is a metaphor and is permissible and protected speech under the First Amendment.

We're the Only Ones Modified Enough

A Deschutes County sheriff’s patrol deputy of eight years has been placed on “modified duty” after his service rifle discharged as he was driving on U.S. Highway 97 and the bullet hit a building.
"...his service rifle discharged..."

"...Ron Brown’s AR 15 rifle went off..."

It's a good thing "Officers train with long-range weapons at least two days each year..."

This is where superior, intensive "Only One" training becomes invaluable. Otherwise, we might suspect guns going off would be their fault.

BATFU to the Rescue at NIU

Ahern said the database would probably be able to lead agents to the first buyer and that hopefully the first buyer was the shooter.
Of course, that will do nothing for the victims, and nothing to stop the next victimization event.

And if the shooter was the first buyer, what will that tell us about the value of NICS/ background checks? Unless, of course, the intent is to show that no one can be trusted...?

We're the Only Ones Deserving Better Than This Enough

Unless abusing quadriplegic, unarmed suspects while she's in a position of power is part of her job, she damn well deserves this!
Guess who feels victimized by the public backlash?

Nicki is not in a sympathetic mood.

Does it not occur to "Authoritah" that "The Only One" who would feel a sense of entitlement under these circumstances is, like, sociopathic and retarded?

Or, in the immortal words of "Suport Your Locol Polece (PSA)":
So help take morons, psychopaths and mental defectives off the street and put them where they belong--on the force.

Educational Priorities

And don't get me started on Oprah and Marilyn Monroe making the list.

For some reason, his reminds me of "The pH Factor"...

We're the Only Ones With "No Reason to Believe" Enough

Phil Galeoto is stepping down amid severe criticism within the Nevada Public Safety Department that he mishandled an investigation into the disappearance of large quantities of drugs and guns from the Fallon vault. The vault is used by several agencies under his control, including the Nevada Investigations Division and the Nevada Highway Patrol...

“I have no reason to believe at this point that anybody has done anything criminal, but as a standard procedure, we’ve asked the attorney general’s office to also take a look at it,” he said.
Yeah, "large quantities of drugs and guns" are missing from a VAULT and it just has to be a clerical oopsie. Nothing to see here...

Hmmm. Sounds plausible.

I mean, it's not like someone could set up audited property inventory and controlled access procedures, with a log book and signatures or anything. I guess for "The Only Ones," the fact that posession is exclusively entrusted to them should be enough.

Campaign Finance Reform

Many of the superdelegates who could well decide the Democratic presidential nominee have already been plied with campaign contributions by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, a new study shows.

"While it would be unseemly for the candidates to hand out thousands of dollars to primary voters, or to the delegates pledged to represent the will of those voters, elected officials serving as superdelegates have received about $890,000 from Obama and Clinton in the form of campaign contributions over the last three years," the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics reported today.
"Democracy" in action.

Meanwhile, McCain-Feingold helps stifle your voice.

Just so everybody's clear on how this works.

But it won't affect our votes. Honest.

This Day in History: February 15

On February 15, “in a private audience and free conference” with a special committee representing the Congress, Gerard spoke urgently and emphatically of the need to speedily define the unconditional terms the colonies would require if a peace settlement were to be sought. This, he told the delegates, was of vital concern also to Spain, a potential ally whose aid the Patriots desperately needed. How far would America go in prosecuting the war? What might she be willing to relinquish? What territorial boundaries did she expect? February 15 would later be recalled be members of the Congress as a critical turning point when they would reconfront the questions of peace and recommit themselves irrevocably to the course they had begun those three long years ago in 1776.
