Not mentioned is the cost of .50 BMG ammunition, at approximately $4 a round.

Since Chief Bratton likes to prohibit things he believes are "excessive", will he next ask to outlaw the sale of racing gasoline in Los Angeles? Doubt it.

Chief Bratton's record of violence reduction in his previous positions in New York City and Boston are just as ineffective as this action.

He claimed they can "shoot down helicopters".

Last CHP rotary bird shot down was shot down by car thieves with a .303 Enfield out in the desert that apparently didn't like the helicopter following them. None of them have been brought down by a BMG.

Don't need a .50 to bring down a chopper. Ask anybody that ever flew copters in Nam.

Hell, he didn't say anything about .510DTC or .408 Chey-Tac ammo, those are marginally better long range rounds than the BMG anyway.
