We're the Only Ones Free to Menace Enough

A SUNY New Paltz police lieutenant has outlasted a charge that he threatened another driver with a gun in 2007, angering that driver and some fellow campus cops.

A misdemeanor menacing charge against Lt. Timothy Wurtz was dismissed March 2 in Montgomery Town Court, and the college has reinstated Wurtz. [More]

So what lesson are we to take from this--except to note that if Lt. Wurtz--or by extension, any SUNY New Paltz "Only One", puts a gun to your head in a fit of rage, you can expect no legal recourse...? And the judge and DA won't even talk about it?

It would seem the only way to read this is to assume a clear message has been sent: You're on your own. I guess that means they expect you to take it? Gee, they're sure not leaving people much choice, are they?

typical cop gunfighter, only gunfights the unarmed. Bet he hides when he should be a gunfighter, and calls for SWAT.

Behavior like he has exhibited is just apt to get him killed when he points his gun at someone he erroneously thinks is unarmed.

Ironically the word verification for this comment is gatshi, guess they misspelled shy.

Don't worry. When he points his weapon at the unknowingly armed, he'll get the full bagpipe show, the widow and family gets the pension, his retaliating target will get arrested for murdering a copy, and on, and on and on. And New York will wring their hands about letting the wrong people having weapons (oops).
