Contra Costa Throws Out Welcome Mat for Criminals

Crooks in Contra Costa County, CA can breathe a sigh of relief:
Misdemeanors such as assaults, thefts and burglaries will no longer be prosecuted in Contra Costa County because of budget cuts, the county's top prosecutor said Tuesday. [More]
And surprise! Somehow, they'll still have the resources to go after you and me if we choose to arm ourselves against these creeps they're allowing to roam the streets. Although there is a way you can contribute to the sheriff's reelection campaign...

Today's Gun Rights Examiner column fleshes out a story we talked about here yesterday. Also get the latest from my fellow GREs.

Expect to see this kind of blackmail more in the future, and all around the country. When budgets and revenues diminish, they threaten the most important functions of government - law enforcement, fire protection, courts - while keeping snail darter rehabilitation and mayonnaise museum funding untouched. They're bluffing to try and extort more funding. Its time to start calling their bluffs.

Amazing. NOT satire from The Onion.
Instead, straight out of the Declaration of Independence. "Swarms of Officers to harass and eat out our substance." "Seeking redress of grievances, we are spurned from the foot of the throne."
They're accelerating the downward spiral. Shoplifting can be enough to put businesses out of business. More unemployment, less spending, causing more businesses to close. Some people without jobs will resort to... shoplifting.
Will the socialist state of California take care of all its comrades?
And it's not like assault, theft and burglary resulted in much punishment anyway. LONG criminal record, back on the street, because it costs to incarcerate.
Maybe the slight stand-down in the War on Drugs will contribute to liberty in some way, but they make up for it with the continuing war on guns.
Exile City, Richmond, Va., did much the same. Blocks and blocks of boarded-up storefronts... and a big investment in PARKING ENFORCEMENT by private mercenaries.

Anonymous, glad to see I'm not the only one who sees through this sham. $142 billion not enough for fire, police, and schools? REALLY? Ever sit down and try to imagine what the DMV takes in annually, you will swear you're doing math wrong...

If you want to see how this plays out you can pay a visit to the UK, where policing of real crime has become unfashionable and where you are now more likely to be arrested for politically incorect jokes than for infringing on private property rights.

Sounds like they're getting ideas from LA County Sheriff Lee Baca, who has been pulling a variant of this for many years. Whenever he thinks he's not getting enough money for his glorified street gang, he threatens to release prisoners from the county jail.

From my comment on David's Examiner site:

DA Kochly’s announcement is obviously an attempt to create a “ground swell” of citizens/taxpayer complaints directed to the county Board of Supervisors. He hopes his fear mongering technique will generate enough public pressure to force the board to rescind its decision to cut his budget. This ploy is nothing new on the political scene. Whether it works or not will depend solely upon the board’s list of priorities.

Of course, his worst case scenario will be: The law abiding citizens of Contra Costa County will arm and defend themselves from the criminal element he has invited to fight his terror campaign for him. That is why he included the threat to continue prosecuting firearm charges. It would not do for folks to find out they don’t really need him and his fellow leaches.

This was, I believe reported in
at SFGate, which also lately noted
Berkeley's Death Wish greening proposals/legislation:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2009/04/18/MNLE17...

Within the next few years, the city is likely to mandate that all
homes meet strict energy standards. In many cases this would mean new double-paned windows, insulation in the attic, walls and floors, a new
white roof that reflects heat, a forced-air furnace and
high-efficiency appliances.
The cost: upward of $33,800.

This, folks, is an end-run around
any post-Kelo (anti-KELO )"eminent domain" legislation that may exist.

I've also seen various judges threatening to free prisoners en masse bc the prisons are "too crowded."

We also might reflect on the success Black Muslims have in making jailhouse conversions, and
the role such ppl might seek once freed, unless that's too controversial for this forum.

Yes, general disarmament is a precursor to genocide. Disarmament of distinct hostile
groups is not. Think further, and
the city scene looks to be more complex than those relatively low
casualty Sipsey Street five finger
exercises. The stretto of a fugue more like it or a demented Cecil Taylor performance.

Shoplifters won't be prosecuted?
They'll know this in advance?
Doesn't look good.

One way I finally gave a distinct pro-RKBA nudge to one faint-hearted co-worked (not a GFW, just reluctant to face the issues) was to point out:

Look at all the delicatessens/bodegas whatever you call them. They all have at least two staff. One often seems to just
hang around and not do too much. Note that he's usually wearing a jacket, not just a shirt.

I also pointed out that many taxi drivers, Olawale, Artan, Ahmed, Uri, and names I never caught seemed to have a grip on the basics of self defense, local laws be ****d.

Neither of the above populations are noted for random mayhem.

Perhaps some of these jurisdictions
will go straight from discretionary license issuance, AKA "NO" to the intent of the Constitution(s) (Fed and State)
that the RKBA shall not be infringed. I can hope.
