I guess "improperly stored" means loaded, cocked, with something stuffed in the trigger guard, and lying on a rickety shelf near the owner's head. That or owned by an idiot who is scared of guns.

I suspect it means something like he had a friend with an "improperly stored" gun in his house who drowned in a boating accident, and another who was killed by a drunk driver, and maybe one of his relatives died of old age with an "improperly stored" gun in the house.
There are so very few cases of people accidentally shooting themselves fatally that if one guy knew three different people who had done so, that guy would almost certainly have the lcoal cops going over every inch of his life trying with a fine-toothed comb, trying to determine if he hadn't maybe helped things along.

In the old days, Scott was the guy who got beat up in the parking lot for shooting his mouth off about things he didn't know about. But that isn't done nowadays. We put them in Congress, the WH, or SCOTUS. In the near future, they'll be fed to the hogs.
