Pre-Mugged Liberals

The first round of Toledo police layoffs, in which 75 officers were let go, may already be having an affect on gun ownership. [More]
I guess it's better late than never.

Still, I don't get the mentality that says the more police there are the less you need a gun.

Strange that police layoffs would convince somebody that it's finally time to buy a gun for self defense. Sure, fewer police will likely mean longer response times. But whether it takes the cops 5 minutes or 30 to get there after you call, if the goblin wants you dead, you're gonna be dead.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Or, as L. Neil Smith put it "like going to the bathroom, breathing, eating, sleeping, or making love, it turns out that self-defense is a bodily function one cannot safely or effectively delegate to a second party."

Doesn't matter. More gun ownership begets more gun ownership until suddenly they are exercising their rights, which most will not give up lightly. They will learn as they go that the number of policement is irrelvant. Meanwhile, more people in the club. Welcome, newbies. Let us show you what comes next...

Eventually they'll put it together that the police don't, can't, are not legally obligated to, prevent crimes. They are tax collectors and castle guards.
