Judge Dread

Why is Tennessee Republican Adam Dread, a gun-owning, card-carrying member of the National Rifle Association, working so hard to fight a bill supporters say will protect the rights of gun-owners in his home state? [More]
Because fearful gun owners keep voting for RINOs with no principle, rather than take a principled stand?

And look, Adam isn't done with his dreadful betrayal:
Dread asserts that according to Tennessee Codes Annotated section 57-5-106(a) that Metro Nashville can pass an ordinance instructing its Beer Board not to grant licenses to establishments that serve beer and allow guns.
While it's fair to judge Dread (say--I don't suppose NRA would be interested in expelling him for cause and in accordance with their Bylaws, would they? Naaah...), the true judgment belongs on those who enable him and his kind to have power over their lives.

"How hard is it to have a common-sense awareness that guns and alcohol don’t mix? It’s a deadly mix. Two guys with fists, you have a fistfight. But if one has a gun, you have a tragedy".

Voltaire once said that "common sense is not common", and is not evident here.

Guns and alcohol do not mix to the same extent that motor vehicles and alcohol do not mix, yet this man does not insist that taxicabs be used by all those who would have a glass of wine with their dinner. 3000 pounds of vehicle pushed by 200 hp and controlled by an incompetent or malevolent individual have killed more than have handguns. Just ask Ted Kennedy in Hyannisport, the home port of the Nantucket Ferry.

If two guys with fists tangle, regardless of the setting, there is still a good possibility for a tragedy, especially if there is a mismatch of physical skills or mental condition.

I have no intention of taking a beating anytime, or anywhere, to comfort Adam Dread's tortured soul. I know no one who would volunteer for such a beating, either.

However, as an adult I have been and continue to be responsible for my actions, and do not need a governmental "parent" to decide for me to protect me from myself.

Anecdotal but personal experience: the only idiot I've ever encountered who wantonly brandished a weapon (and discharged such) in an establishment that served adult beverages was a cop. When his brothers arrived they simply sent him on his way, four sheets to the wind and still in possession of his gun.

Only ones uber alle....

What, an NRA member with some power turning on the rank-and-file? I'm shocked, SHOCKED I tell you!

David, great piece, however, once again, while I am strong supporter of the Second Amendment and all Constitutional Rights - I AM NOT, NOR WILL I EVER BE a member of the NRA. The NRA has been compromised and they too many times folded or given in to the ANTI GUN lobby. Stop wasting your money folks.

Good point on the NRA, where where they on the AG during hearings to give him the stamp of approval. Look at the judge that has been picked to be on the USSC and how out of the loop the NRA is on this. Even a past president of the NRA has written her being unhappy with the, wait and see demeanor of the NRA big wigs.
The NRA supporting H.R. 2640 was the very last act of contempt for the Second Amendment that I could stand to endure by them.

Damn Right (AvgJoe), damn right... I don't have the current list, but I have a whole list of broken promises, compromises and failed "last stands" - The NRA will not get another $1.00 of my money. They are a farce as far I'm concerned...a paper tiger who is playing way too much politics nowadays. I have contributed to the Second Amendment Foundation (for about 2 yrs), however, I sent them an ultimatum too - "START GOING AFTER THESE SOCIALIST NAZIs in NJ - or no more cash!". So, in short, my dollars might just be re-routed once again very soon..
