Are LA Fitness Facilities "Gun Free Zones"?

From Bruce W. Krafft, who administers KABA Newslinks:
I just called several LA Fitness locations in the Mpls/Saint Paul metro and all confirmed that members are prohibited from bringing guns onto the property.
I don't know if this is nationwide corporate policy or if this applied to the location in PA. And I've heard some say it wouldn't matter because you don't exercise with your gun tucked into the Spandex. In fairness, there's probably not enough of a demand to induce them to be responsible for maintaining and staffing a secure lockup area. Still, just knowing it's a "gun free zone" would be enough to let the killer, who was reportedly a member, know not to expect even the potential of resistance.

Me, I have a weight bench, treadmill and heavy bag down in the basement that I can ignore just fine on my own without paying any monthly fee and under the best security I can provide.

Perhaps for some. There are options.

Funny, the idea was supposed to be to stay fit and prolong your life. So how are you going to do that, unarmed? Cognitive disconnect. I would rename it, Total Fitness. If you ain't armed, you ain't fit to live.

Probably most fitness centers have a similar policy. Something to consider when debating using one.
I would like to point out that the staff of the center in Pittsburgh, according to reports "calmly guided patrons to the exit." That's the right thing to do. Here's some reminders:

From the prolific author, Greg Perry (about eBay and sundry computer topics:

My bride, a former public school ... just told me this: Lockdown is nothing more than an attempt to keep collateral damage to a fixed number. Its their (failed) hope that the maximum number of students who will die will be the number locked inside the room or hall with the shooter.

from the Freemendo at Typepad blog 04 November 2007 Lockdown

Lockdown, lockdown, lockdown. No, no, no. When the terrorists began their assault at Beslan, around 40% of the students and staff ran like cuh-razy to get away from the school. A few hid in the boiler room. Every single one of those children and adults lived.

What Kevin said. Been there - 24 Hour Fitness - done that - couple different fanny packs until finding that the Galco one was most comfortable. Nary a word said nor an eyebrrow ever raised.

Isn't the record mass murder still that night club arson in Chicago? Assuming for the sake of argument that all guns were magically eliminated, wouldn't this creep just use molotov cocktails instead?

Hows this option for concealing a gun. Bet the people at the gym would NEVER notice the gun!
