Do You Feel Lucky?

The assumption from the beginning was that I would never keep the gun...My wife insisted on it. (I believe her exact words were: "There's no way you're bringing that thing in the house.") [More]
And what, exactly is his wife prepared to do about it if someone decides to bring a "thing" in the house in defiance of her command?

So let's see, after going through five pages of explaining all the ridiculous hoops he had to jump through and listening to him emote self doubt and rationalize his abdication of adult responsibilities, he ends up not keeping the gun?

I guess it doesn't occur to him that the people who don't jump through such hoops--the people who can get a gun in D.C. any time they want-- would laugh at the foolishness of it all? Right before they turned their attention to his wife, and assuming he's still able to scream through the duct tape...?

But that never happens to lucky people, does it?

I had a similar situation when I started dating my girlfriend almost a decade ago. The difference is, I told her "if you make me choose between you or the guns, the guns stay." She's mostly gotten over it, but I won't ever back down from my position. We have plenty of compromise in our relationship. I won't compromise on that one though.

Wow. Just wow. He's got crackheads and dealers in his alley, the car has been broken into, and the neighbor almost got kidnapped right in front of the house, but he's more scared of his pistol unlocking it's own case, loading itself and running away to cause havoc all on its own. Impressive. I'd say my girlfreind is a bigger man than him, she knows wood, plastic and metal only make tools, people control them, not the other way around. Except in this case, I think he's a tool.

He's not afraid of the pistol. He's afraid of being shut off by his wife.

Better to be like many TV programs, where innocent people holding a golf club confront burglars with no bad consequence ever?

I saw a similar discussion over at Mike Vs. the other day. A wife wouldn't let him bring a EBR home because of the way it looked. Advice was for him to get a lever action. I advised for him to get what he thought he needed & if she left call it good enough and be doubly happy. See what costs the most, all the shoes & hats she takes with her, or the new EBR. Now you will not have to worry about her standing in the middle of the room as a screeching & helpless liability and you can fight your way out worrying only about saving your own rear. My bride is trained enough that she will fight the way out & I can be the asset that covers her.
Lever actions are just barely OK as the military dropped them over 100 years ago for a reason, but get what you want & what you feel will do the best job.
[Unfortunately Mike V thought it not best to post my comment. I suspect it didn't meet the criteria of the lever action disgussion.]

Which post was it under? Unless it was a complete hijacking of a thread on another topic, I can't understand why he'd intentionally suppress that. Maybe he just couldn't get to everything in the queue...

The "man" is a pussy waiting to be gang-banged, while the gang does same to "no-things in the house female" he married. Gave the " the guns stay, whether you do or not" speech to my wife long ago. She is a good shot, and not afraid to pick up a gun to defend herself or her family. The best kind of wife. Smart, and Tough. That reporter is married to a victim.

David, I can't find it. It was about 10 days ago & the thread started in the comments with the first one being from the PW guy whose wife wouldn't let him have the EBR and what would be the best substitute. Everyone then jumped in on how wonderful the levers were & whose was the best. My comment was about the same as this one, but there I didn't have anything wonderful to say about levers & kinda changed the subject to "get some spine and get what you want and need". Instead of praising their levers (which are OK if that's what you want) the commentors should have been encouraging him to get some courage. By not posting my comment Mike did not hurt my feelings a bit, but it sure did waste a good point. If he can't stand up to her he sure can't stand up to a gang banger no matter what he's got in his hands.
