funny how rarely the federal government protects individuals from the state governments, in light of how often it protects its own interests from the state governments.

There is an overwhelming, though anecdotal, dawning realization that the type of people who now go into government service are narcississtic sociopaths.

Every now and then they harm each other and one of them will eat the other one. That is great entertainment, but does little to actually stop the process because the downed sociopath will be replaced most likely by another, but one who has learned the rules better. He will then prey on "Officially Designated Prey" (citizen) and be left alone by the other sociopaths in government service, leaving them all more time to admire their images in the mirror.
