We've touched on the controversy here and here.

What's even more amazing is that Cramer is supposedly a historian. Does he not know that being openly armed has been much more protected than concealed carry? In many cultures carrying concealed in some situations was seen as rude or sinister.Unlicensed concealed carry was among the first gun rights to go. The criminal courts justified it by saying open carry was the "honest" or "manly" way to arm oneself. Read Steven Halbrook, among others.

If any one right or liberty is denied then all liberties and rights can be denied.
True freedom is offensive, frightening and downright disturbing. So What. I can't seem to recall it being written anywhere that we have a right not to be offended. If that were the case rap music would have been outlawed at the start.
I am in favor of unrestricted carry. That means both open and concealed. I prefer (note that this is a PERSONAL preference not an edict) to carry open. I believe it acts in the same way that the warning on a pack of cigarettes does. I cannot and will not define your carry. The law says bear arms not how they should be borne.

Clayton Cramer also believes Marijuana is essentially deadly, citing a British study concluded people are 40% more likely to get psychosis if they use marijuana. This is demonstratively false if you look at South & Central American societies that have embraced marijuana use for several generations. Pregnant women in Jamaica smoke marijuana with extremely high THC content, and studies have found nothing. Cramer seems only interested in information that supports his conclusions, while ignoring empirical data suggesting otherwise. I see his lunacy in several internet avenues, and I'm not surprised to have read his most recent trash.

Trying to lump gun-owners into one political ideology is detrimental to the survival of gun rights. If gun rights is only fought for by homophobic jackasses, the second amendment will die when they do.
