Natural Causes

Two coyotes attacked a promising young musician as she was hiking alone in a national park in eastern Canada, and authorities said she died Wednesday of her injuries. [More]
I just got done reading a post over at Vanderboegh's about people who have no business wandering into the wilderness.

They have every right to, mind you, but we all ignore at our peril a fundamental truth:
Damn, nature, you scary!
Even if commentator "MPB" thinks prudent preparations are "fear-mongering."

They always tell us that being attacked by wild animals is a very low risk. That's damn cold comfort to the one attacked.

MPB is full of shit. Right down to her birkenstocks. You want to see fear-mongering sister? Watch your govt. in action.

Nature is a harsh teacher. If you don't study and prepare before you take the test, a failing grade can be fatal.

The comments after the article are interesting. The article is about a young lady getting mauled to death by coyotes.

A commenter then announces that it's not necessary to carry a gun anywhere he's been, but can't comment about the area in which the lady was killed.

I've seen all kinds of odd coyote behavior in Arizona, and killed two with a handgun when they had no fear and strolled right in.

Take your chances being unarmed. Being helpless is a right.

Gentle souls fail to realize that "communion with nature" might involve their playing the part of the bread and wine.

A lovely and talented young woman... who's dead for lack of a mere .22 pistol. Damn shame.
