the concept of the grand jury no longer applies to what happens when americans assemble in a courtroom today -- supposedly to decide whether or not a trial may take place.

any reasonable person, having inspected the traditional grand jury and its history up to today, would conclude that the phrase itself cannot honestly be applied today: there are no grand juries, and have not been for some time.

it does not require a degree in some austere field within law to see it, merely an inclination to dispel one's own ignorance. unfortunately, "education" today is designed to suppress that desire... but that's a whole other story.
