Where the Hell is PETA? Or all those protesting guns in parks? Of course we couldn't have regular hunters harvest them. Better to hire government thugs to kill them and waste them.
Can't say as I'm delighted with this, but it's not all that bad. The shooters are harvesting the venison and it's all donated to the local food bank. They do also allow controlled bow hunting in some areas, so I would assume that opening the areas to general hunting are a question of proximity to population rather than a fundamental problem with hunters.
Of course the "green" answer would be to introduce a wolf pack and a few big cats into each area. I'm sure PETA would approve.
No need to hunt the deer, just drive around in an expensive car, with the deer rifles, at high speed where the deer are known to be, and Voila! They'll show up.

Why not issue 300 controlled hunt tags to interested hunters via lottery at $25 a pop?
