Well, now what? We've been saying "Let the teachers carry", and this knucklehead just destroys that idea. Because of this, there's no way either will reconsider.
On the other hand, he flouted the law by bringing a gun into a gun-free zone, thereby showing once again, the utter futility of such zones.
There is an illusion that if a place is declared "gun-free" because of legislation, then the place is actually "gun-free". All the legislation does is provide a prosecutable offense after someone brings a gun into the place and is detected - just like posted highway speed limits slow everyone down, with no exception. The problem is not with the weapon itself, but the use of the weapon. The use is already prohibited by other legislation.
If the teacher had used a gardening tool to beat the others severely, the end result would be the same, but the tool would be considered relatively benign and never prohibited. The use of the gardening is prohibited by legislation.
Encouraging all adults to carry a weapon allows an effective defense against others who would attack. Knowing that others may effectively defend themselves reduces the likelihood that the attack will be initiated.

I ain't buyin' the illusion, Dimoties. I remember a jewelry store that had one of those "clever" signs that said no carrying of guns in every imaginable adjective. I said, "I noticed your 'Welcome, Robbers. Happy hunting!' sign". The clerk agreed!
