We certainly acknowledge and accept that the U.S. Constitution gives law-abiding citizens the right to bear arms. [More]

When are they going to learn the Constitution doesn't GIVE us anything.

WE already had it.

IT just recognizes that we RETAINED that right.

Stinking children....

End the unconstitutional restrictions on carrying weapons - anywhere, including government buildings. After all, the most heinous crimes are perpetrated by government employees in those facilities. Not only in California; this type of illogical, twisted, emotion-laden thinking appears pandemic. There are outbreaks of this insane thinking in all areas, but the root source appears to be in the District of Columbia. Most politicians, shortly after arriving there, seem to get infected. The disease vector might well be the large sums of money they get exposed to. The “SIR model” ( http://plus.maths.org/issue14/features/diseases/ ) seems custom-made for describing how this infection occurs, and correlates well with the maxim that “power corrupts”. As we all know, money is power.

I just posted the following at the Times-Herald site - You might want to look quickly because it might not last very long:

I certainly acknowledge and accept that the U.S. Constitution gives the Times-Herald the freedom of the press but I am concerned that opinion pieces like this could also prompt consequences that you did not intend or consider while exercising your right.

Members of law enforcement are not enamored with this freedom of the press trend either. It doesn't help them; it very often makes makes their job tougher.

I can envision a circumstance where an armed robber enters a store and not seeing anyone who would be capable of preventing his crime opens fire and kills almost everyone in the store. Like that's never happened in California.

I will grant that employees of the Times-Herald are likely are well-trained with a word-processor. But it is unlikely that they are well-trained in police work or firearms.

Yes, the right exists. I get it. Statement made. Now, how about everyone take a deep breath and put the keyboards away.

No W3--it does not GIVE them that. It merely recognizes it.

I was using their own words cut and pasted from the Times-Herald article to attack their right to exercise freedom of speech and of the press.
