Feds to Gun Seller: Profile or Else!

Velte pointed out that "There is no way for a citizen to know who is here legally or not. In fact, under Austin’s ‘sanctuary city’ policy, not even the police officer at the door of the gunshow was allowed to ask a person’s immigration status, yet the average Texan inside the show is expected to assume that a person standing before them with a Texas driver’s license is in the country illegally just because they look Mexican and speak Spanish." Velte noted that the federal government’s lawsuit against Arizona was based on that very type of conduct: Concluding someone could be here illegally based on their looks or their language. [More]
Just so we're clear: Every one of us who conducts a private sale is in danger of the same destruction of our lives.

And then there's this:
Federal prosecutors said Ronning sold two gun silencers, seven assault weapons and a machine gun to undercover agents and others posing as Mexican citizens without identification at the Yosemite Boulevard business.
It looks like they failed at using Mexico to get new "gun laws" passed, so now they're just using Mexicans--both real and simulated.

I smell set up. And the questions raised in the first case as to why the violator has not been pursued tell me it's because you don't discard working assets.

One result of this sort of thing is the destruction of private sales at gunshows. I know I won't ever be purchasing a gun that way again. Not even in Wyoming.

You don't suppose that's the whole point, do you?

Sheriff Joe ought to put this guy on the witness list for defending his federal lawsuit.

Dann in Ohio

The guy had a crappy appointed lawyer who didn't subpoena the witnesses who would have helped Copeland. The ATF lied on the stand like the pieces of crap they are.

The jury must have been stupid badge-lickers because the illegal testified that he didn't buy the gun from Copeland and didn't set up a straw purchase.

I got this from Paul.

I have to recommend YouTube again as the open forum where the ignorance, cruelty and apathy of Americans and others can be seen in all its hideous glory. These are the people in the jury pool.
I think often of a poet's explanation of why an Icarus-like figure crashed. His wings were constructed of CHICKEN feathers, and the chicken "covets the midden, not the sky."
A midden is a garbage heap.

Sounds a lot like entrapment from the read.

On the contrary, mamaLiberty, we all need to go to gun shows more often.

Also, we all need to ask ourselves this, "will I allow an arrest to be made at a gun show?"

And, "will I allow federal agents to attend my gun shows?"

The BATFAE has no jurisdiction to make such arrests at all. They're committing felonies by doing so.
Title 18, Part I, Section 241 is very clear on that, will we enforce it?

Pat,

The Austin Police Department made the arrest. They were there with their noses deeply embedded into the backside of the BATF.
