Fires Burn Throughout Detroit

I read this and my first thought was the subhead should read "Hundreds of Dollars in Property Damage."

Then coincidentally, these other Motor City links came to my attention:

"90-year-old testifies about rape": Every once in a while I am compelled to rethink my position on crucifixion. I'm thinking lined up on the side of the highway, with some of those signs that give Ballsy Dave the vapors...

"Charges aren't 1st ones for Detroit cop": Maybe not crucifixion for this one, but a good scourging might be in order...

What can I say but "GO CLEVELAND!"?

83 separate fires in one day, and the mayor says it was "natural causes."
"People blame energy giant."
Ain't monopolies a sweet deal?
They can't get someone out to fix your utilities for a couple of weeks, but someone can be there within the hour to disconnect them if you can't pay the bill.
Population density engenders other kinds as well.

But there is no way you can appropriately plan for a natural disaster,” he said.

so you get paid... why?

“We simply don’t have the people,”

actually you have millions of people. but you effectively disarm them for dealing with VCAs, and also for dealing with fires, because you think the state can do the job. and now you're surprised?

“Detroit homes are very close together, and fires spread quickly,”

that'd be a consequence of the new deal.

“There are only 6 occupied properties out of 30 in the two-block area,” he said.

i stand corrected: you don't have any people. your taxes were too high and your real estate crashed.

I guess Lousyberg's 'misdemeanor assault' amendment didn't address crimes by cops...why the hell is this moron still wearing a costume?

BTW, great links to Cleveland! Watched the first one too and have to say- yup. Go Thomas Jefferson Jr. High (now closed and still crumbling just as it was in 1978- just like Cleveland)!

Looks like a lack of planning and foresight on the part of the city's government constituted an emergency for its residents.

But, that's okay. We can always blame it on either God or George Bush.

Been reading Kratman again? ;)

Why is that Detroit cop still on duty? Doesn't her 2006 conviction for domestic violence make her a federally "prohibited person"? Not sure why she still gets to carry a gun..
