Not the Founders' "Well Regulated Militia"

So how would you characterize this?

A latter day marque and reprisal contractor, or "a convenient way to bypass posse comitatus"?

And would you take orders from someone acting in either capacity?

A private army, not militia. I'd accord them all the respect and cooperation I'd give any foreign occupying force.
I think those black uniforms stand out really well against urban gray concrete. That's good.
I've seen these ads. It sounds like just the thing for wannabe JBTs. Brownshirts in black. Mercenaries, except without the honor.
A contractor, J.I.R., was quoted on survivalblog.com not long ago advising municipal leaders of the necessity for hiring people off the street to help the police in the event of a disaster.
Extremely bad idea.
Look up "Milgram experiment" on what happens to even good, kind people when they're given some authority and absolved of moral conventions.
As long as we have the means to disagree in a convincing way, I'm not worried about these punks. I can think of many good law-abiding citizens who should be, though.

just more proof that security cannot be provided by the state.

they have to hire from the outside (read: pay a market price) to get done anything they want to do.

this is capitalism. pure and simple.

the militias of america abandoned their security/community defense mission many years ago.

like any capitalist society..when a job is abandoned and it needs to be done, someone will do it. for money. and if it's an emergency the results may not be pretty, or even legal.

there is one person to blame for this. and he stares back in the mirror every morning. we need to take back the community defense role. or stop complaining when people are hired to do it when we won't.

..."a convenient way to bypass posse comitatus"...

Looks more like a way to avoid the "blue helmet" problem.

They were missing a _very_ important job "qualification": ability to deflect .308 147 grain projectiles moving at 2000+ fps.
