You want to know why the NRA is quietly backing Harry Reid?
It's simple: If Reid loses, the next leader of the Senate Democrats will be Charles Schumer. We would go from a Senate Democratic leader who is fairly friendly towards guns rights to one who is outright hostile.
I don't think much of Reid, but in this instance, the NRA is playing it smart.
I somewhat agree with Comrade... this is a tough spot for the NRA, they don't want of tick-off Harry, and if Angle wins and Schumer takes over there will never be anything accomplished for the pro-gun side under his tenure without a "gun to his head".
I personally wish they had endorsed Angle rather than appearing to sit on the fence about it. As for all the NRA card-burners... the NRA has it's hands and fingers in over 100 congressional races this fall and hundreds of state-level races. I've only seen a few (including Angle) that people are really upset about.
Am I defending the NRA - YES. Do I agree with the NRA on every decision - NO. Considering that the the politics and NRA-PVF are just a portion of the NRA's involvement in 2nd amendment related areas, and just a handful of their hundreds and hundreds of political endorsements and ratings are misguided... Sure, let's just throw out the whole baby with the bath water and drop our memberships...
...the NRA is fighting for and suing for 18 year-olds (some who are already veterans) to have their constitutional rights restored so they can purchase a handgun - to heck with them.
...to heck with all the youth and hunters who benefit from the NRA's training, support, and programs.
...to heck with hundreds/thousands of pro-gun laws they helped pass - especially because they didn't do enough for a couple of groups in a couple of states, or tried to take credit for the supreme court case they played a very small part in.
Have the GOA send my 4H shooting sports club - that has served over 400 youth in the past 10 years - $4,000 in grant money next spring to cover ammunition and supplies... and I might, maybe, possibly consider the possibility of letting my NRA membership lapse. The NRA has helped us out with grants and materials for many years and it has nothing to do with their endorsing or not endorsing any candidates.
And when the NRA goes a route you don't like, call them and give them heck - like I do.

If it's about keeping Schumer down, they could have said so. Thanks for the information.
Still REacting out of fear instead of being PROactive with conviction. I'm not afraid of Schumer. He can get laws passed, but it's up to us to obey -- or strongly disagree. And they don't have enough prison cells for all those who would yet. Never will.
