We're the Only Ones Non-Electrifying Enough

Henry fled on foot and Deputy Purnell gave chase, mistakenly drawing his firearm, instead of his taser, and shooting Henry in the elbow.[More]
Ah, the Johannes Mehserle defense.

Because "Only Ones" are so much better trained and qualified...

Looks like some Poodle Syndrome going on here. The remarkable thing about poodles in tutus dancing on their hind legs is not that they do it so well, as much as they do it at all.

Since a Taser is a "less-than-lethal" weapon with a demonstrated death rate, not a "non-lethal" weapon, why was it used at all? If force was justified, with escape of the person served with the warrant intolerable because of the imminent threat posed by him, then the efficiency of the weapon used is not the question, but the justification of force is. Use of force may result in death or serious injury and must not be treated lightly - regardless of weapon used.
