Did SPLC just make it dangerous to have a ‘conservative’ bumper sticker?

Because with all the conflation, what message will be enough to trigger a protective reaction?
“I am an American National”?  “Death to the New World Order”?

How about “Oath Keepers”?  Or “III”?  Or “We are everywhere’?

How about “I’m the NRA”?  Or “Chose Life”? [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column asks "just who you callin' 'extremist,' extremist?"

Do something extreme and share the link?

The big assumption made by most folks is that "all law enforcement agents are always right all the time and anything a non-LEO does in opposition is wrong".

I don't know all the facts in the case of Jerry Kane and his son's encouters with LEOs; moving more to the abstract, however, makes it crystal clear that unlawful acts by LEOs are of course criminal. (18 USC 241, 18 USC 242 as two easy examples)

Neither is a law "lawful" simply by being on the law books. (Marbury vs Madison, Norton vs Shelby County)

Finally, when a criminal act is being committed by a LEO, even falsely under color of law, it is legal to resist the criminal acts with force, even to include the successful use of deadly force. (Bad Elk vs United States)

Such defense may not be wise or conducive to a long and peaceful life, but not because such defense is illegal or immoral - merely because once an attacking hornet is smashed near the nest, a lot of angry hornets suddenly appear and they usually don't take time to ask questions. (Though they sure take their sweet time releasing any 'evidence'.)

I've been spreading the word that NBC's "Law and Order:SVU" is featuring the "no ground zero mosque" movement as kidnappers of a federal undercover investigator who had been posing as a member of that "white Christian racist anti-government" group for a year. In the commercial, she even wore a baseball cap and a down vest to look like a real right-wing 'Murican.
The conditioning is ongoing.
No doubt the NYPD heroes will commit unconstitutional acts as usual to catch the leader and provide him the opportunity for a white supremacist soapbox soundbite.

Posted at The Mental Militia today.

We all may need to pick our battles a little more carefully now.

Not me, ML. I'm not interested in helping the bastards turn the heat down on the frog pot. They lit the fire--let THEM put it out.

The video is amazing. When one officer on the driver side is gathering and entering data, isn't the other officer on the passenger side supposed to monitor the occupants of the pulled over vehicle? I saw an officer turn his back on the vehicle. When I see the passenger exit the vehicle with a rifle in his hand, level the rifle and take an aimed shot at the "monitoring" officer, followed by shots at the other officer, my conclusion is that someone screwed up. You don't need to see a bumper sticker or odd paper-work to prevent this. Lack of bumper stickers or odd paper-work does not indicate that the vehicle stop will be trivial and uneventful. If there are unicorns, rainbows and skittles on the bumper, things may still go badly, especially if the officers are careless.

This video made my stomach drop a little (a lot of things I have been reading lately have.) I hope this is not a training video for law enforcement. It seemed to vague, like they were trying to group everybody as rightwing extremist. I don’t believe in “sovereign citizen” philosophy. I actually group them as anarchist. If you want a working society, you have to pay your FAIR share of taxes. The part where they believe in the County Sherriff has the highest authority is a good idea, but we will never see that again in this country. We need state and local law enforcement. The days where every house had a musket by the front door to use when your neighbor needed help is gone. Back then there was no need for city/town police because people took care of each other.

TC, taxation is theft. The Founders were quite clear in their respect for property rights, and the first piece of property free citizens owned were their own bodies, as well as the products produced through the use of their bodies (mind, muscle power, time, etc.). Yes, I'm aware of the Whiskey Rebellion - nothing like a little power to go to a man's head, apparently.

There is no such thing as a 'fair' tax, any more than a 'fair' robbery.

After all, there's no significant difference: you pay the robber because he has a gun. Try not paying taxes and see what you get threatened with.

(Now, voluntary usage fees are another matter, and one which can be entirely in harmony with the basic principles of liberty.)

Now, whether or not Jerry Kane and his kid were raving lunatics, if cops hadn't been bothering people over crap we thought was passe after World War II ended, both the cops and the Kanes would likely be alive and well.
