We're the Only Ones...

As always, I didn't set out today to have this theme dominate the blog. That they do says less about an agenda here than it does about a non-stop supply of stories involving those some would have us believe are the "Only Ones" we can trust with guns.

I'm out of time for individual posts. Here's a sampling of some--but not all--tips received in my inbox:

...Acting as a Community Role Model Enough
A former Tennessee Highway Patrol officer is accused of doing drugs and spending time with a prostitute.
...Inadmissable Enough
The blood test in question shows that Bisard’s blood alcohol content level was more than twice the legal limit when he plowed into two motorcycles, killing one person and seriously injuring two others.
...Crashing Enough
A detentions deputy has been accused of driving under the influence after she was found crashed into a pole with two inmates.
...Helping Ourselves Enough
A Clayton County police officer was indicted in federal court Wednesday on charges of taking money and using his law enforcement position to protect drug dealers.

Jonathan Callahan
, 27, also was indicted by a federal grand jury for stealing guns and money from people during two traffic stops.
Just remember, Josh thinks these guys should enjoy a monopoly of violence, and Paul thinks I'm denigrating law enforcement...

Seems to me these untrustworthy characters are doing a pretty good job of denigrating themselves without my help...

We're the Only Ones On the Beat Enough

What started as a walk to the park with his dogs ended with a trip to the hospital for a Denver dog owner. 32-year-old Mark Ashford says he was beaten black and blue by two Denver Police officers. [More]
That'll teach him to offer an abuse victim his services as a witness! We won't stand for "uppity"!

Make sure you watch the video.

Notice the headline said "New case"? Here's the other recent one.

It's a good thing we have all those cameras, as this Denver Police incident shows. That way, we can turn them away when the beating starts--but in fairness it does redirect to let us watch the kid get dragged into the cruiser and see a door slammed on his ankle.

That'll teach him to call his dad when a friend is being manhandled!

Make sure you watch that video, too.

Why do they do it? Because based on results, they think they can get away with it.

It's not like Denver "Only Ones" assaulting citizens hasn't been known about for a long time. Hell, a few years back, they even made souvenir shirts bragging about it. And nothing has been done about it.

They have to get caught on tape being thugs, and then the weasel-wording starts.

These guys are asking to get pushed back. And if it happens, it will include all the 'good apples" who keep their mouths shut and go along to get along.

When those of us who have predicted a day of reckoning see it unfold, exactly what is our incentive supposed to be to put ourselves at risk trying to intervene? And if vicious brutality is directed at us or those we love, will it really be all that hard to understand if some refuse to submit, and take it on themselves to restore law and order?

We're the Prospective Only Ones Enough

Court files indicate that Holtquist allegedly told police he fired a .22 caliber handgun out the window of his pickup at least 10 times. "Joshua stated that he had been consuming alcohol and lost all his money at the Saloon Number 10," Witcraft stated.

Holtquist said he was frustrated because of the vehicle in front of him. Holtquist allegedly told investigators that being caught would jeopardize his possible future employment with the Pennington County Sheriff's Office. [More]
See, this is why they can't let you and me go armed in establishments that serve alcohol.

We're the Only Ones Bursting Through Enough

One minute Bruce and Elaine Reager were watching TV inside their duplex on Summerdawn Street, and the next, Meridian Police had broken it down.

Officers were searching for the suspect of a 911 domestic violence call, but admit they went to the wrong home. [More]

Whaddya know?

Their "law-abiding citizen" sign didn't work. Those inclined to put those cop-supporting bumper stickers on your cars, take note. It's not a guaranteed reciprocal relationship.

I wonder if Bruce had made a sudden move if the results would have been justified under "department protocol"?

A Sign of the Times

Vanderboegh evidently agrees with Lady Bird Johnson...or something.

Yeah, it's got to be "or something," because her beef was with private sector billboards.

The Eyes Have It

"If you've been convicted of a crime, in essence, this will act as a digital scarlet letter. If you're a known shoplifter, for example, you won't be able to go into a store without being flagged. For others, boarding a plane will be impossible." [More]
Or buying a gun if you're on a "terror watch list"?
I'm thinking contact lenses with retina pattern prints, but then I'm thinking hell, just put a stop to this crap.

And then there's this:
Opting out actually puts more of a flag on you than just being part of the system. We believe everyone will opt-in.
Followed by wishful excuse-making from the rope-selling capitalist:
"We're not talking about anything different here--just a system that's good for all of us."
Yeah, pal. And they'll eat you last?

I'll decide what's good for me.

German socialist: 'Guns for me but not for thee'?

See, we're really nice guys now. Those other "old school" progressives, well, they were just perverts. You can trust us with a monopoly of violence. Honest. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner observes latter day German National Socialists want everyone disarmed but themselves.

This is my shocked face.

Standing a Chance

Mike Vanderboegh talked about something a while back that bears a refresher on in light of two other stories that caught my attention in my daily content search. It's a theme advanced regularly by the left and the ignorant:
"Small gun groups don't stand a chance"
Communications are interrupted in less connected-to-the-grid parts of the world. Somebody needs to tell that to this guy.

Or to these folks.

There are some misinformed souls in the "gun community" who disparage the "Threepers" as wanting to start a civil war. They're also not above laying on the defeatist scorn.

I'm reminded of something I said in an article I wrote for GUNS & AMMO around 10 years back, titled "You Say You Want a Revolution?":
But that’s ok. As long as such uncertainty exists, the Second Amendment is doing its job. As long as government fears an armed populace, and based on all the idiot laws they’re trying to pass, they sure must, a powerful check on tyranny remains in place. After all, it is an evident truth that the strength of our nation can be measured by its freedom, and the Second Amendment is the key bellwether for this freedom. We can see in its erosion the breakdown of trust between government and the governed, and the attendant instability and conflict that is inevitable when this happens.

The seemingly paradoxical truth is, if you want to create a stable, peaceful and free society, where a Chechnya-style conflict becomes the unlikeliest of possibilities, you must guarantee that the whole people can arm themselves to the teeth. For only by making the cost of infringing our rights too high can we make those who would abridge them afraid to act. Just as, at the individual level, a criminal avoids a potential victim who may be armed, so too does this work on a societal scale.

If none of us stand a chance, why would we take a chance on a stand?

This Day in History: August 20

The Hand of providence has been so conspicuous in all this, that he must be worse than an infidel that lacks faith, and more than wicked, that has not gratitude enough to acknowledge his obligations. [More]
