N.R.A. Stymies Firearms Research, Scientists Say...So what you're saying is every claim stated with such authoritative certainty about the benefits of "gun control" is fraudulent, and the proponents know it, yet work in concert to enact binding legislation depriving individuals of their rights anyway? Using public funds?

And what does the fact that NRA has enough clout to "stymie" more money down the agenda rat hole say about who legislators dependent on elections listen to and why? I thought you "progressives" were all about "democracy."
And why drag poor Stymie into it in such a negative light? He didn't do anything, and I always kind'a liked the guy...

If one believes the right to guns is a disease and guns are vectors of death, then of course one would welcome the opinions of an entity that feels the came way.
The DoJ Bureau of Justice Statistics seems much more impartial than the CDC, saying as they do that per-capita gun misuse is quite low. I guess that's not "research" because it doesn't back up certain prejudices.
Imagine if the all-powerful NRA would use their stupendous world-moving influence to defend our rights in toto instead of compromise them away.
They're not at all concerned with what any study says about "gun control". If it doesn't vindicate them, it will be ignored anyway.
Rosenberg grousing is especially rich. It was his grabby subversion that precipitated the funds squabble with CDC in the first place, when he went around bragging how he was aiming to see guns considered "dirty, deadly and banned."
While I'm not familiar with Rosenberg, I do know Wintemute and Kellermann very well. Both are feckless hacks with nothing better to do than suck up government "research" funding.
Wintemute worked just up the road from where I lived in CA. He kept a scanner tuned in to police radios and had various insiders such as EMT people reporting to him, with bonus payments of course, for any response to a crime involving gun shots between Sacramento and Oakland. He would then race to the scene and take down information, none of which was verifiable by third parties because only Wintemute logged the data.
Kellermann is more well known. I used to have a transcript of an interview of him by the department he once worked for at Emory University, wherein he spoke at length of his goal of gun confiscations based on his research findings. He actually planned, well in advance, where he wanted his "reseach" to take him and then actually did exactly what he stated he'd do.
None of these people should be given a single penny of taxpayer funding, they're charlatans plain and simple.
Last, as we all know, or should know, self defense with any weapon is not subject to arguments of utility (based on any research, bogus or not) nor to the democratic process. Self defense with any weapon is a right.
David, this reminds me of your recent Freedom of Information Act request being stymied by DHS.
Anonymous requests for public information copies paid for in cash will no longer be honored in this California city.
