When There's No Fan for it to Hit

As i remember coffee and cigarettes was hard to find and expensive through all of the time, everything else changed, sometimes was expensive and hard to find, sometimes not.

But important to remember is to make it easier to you, so obliviously, it is much easier to carry and trade candles and batteries than 20 liters of fuel. [More]
Makes a lot of sense. So much for my plan to invest in Princess Diana collector plates and Disney figurines...

it cannot be simultaneously true that gold has no value whatsoever during total collapse and people will kill you for it. why would they want something that has no value?

similarly, why hold whiskey, coffee and cigarettes -- only to trade it for gold that people are getting rid of during a collapse? they could trade that gold for anything. that's the point. how is it that gold will "only get you killed" when you didn't kill those people, rather than trade away your cigarettes for their gold?

we already have people who will kill you for less right here, right now. that is not going away, ever.

now recent-year bullion coin is for two things: speculation and investment. silver is best for the former, and gold for the latter.

currencies die, period. they are all dying right now. the majority of them ever invented have died and are gone. holding an amount of gold instead of staying fully in any number of currencies buffers you from that process both economically and politically. you can take that to any country. you can sit still and wait for new issuance. you can live without fear -- government's only weapon -- if you have already resolved to do so.

nonetheless, you still are wise to hold some cash in case of temporary collapse. why? because other people don't. the same reason you'd hold anything else. all of which makes you a target, so you aren't getting away with turning it all into coffee cans. the way to hide wealth is to adopt a mind-set of modesty and humility now.

as a bonus, the longer it takes to "reboot" a fiat currency at the national level, the greater likelihood that you and your gold coins are the new standard. and if they are not, rest assured the people managing the new government standard will climb over each other to get your gold. they know why currencies die; they're usually responsible for it.

be the bank or buy the bank.

don't think so small, not right now when you don't have to. your OODA loop will tighten up naturally when the cars are flipped everywhere and nobody puts out the fires.
