With Rights Come Responsibilities

Dolphins are so intelligent that they should be thought of as ‘non-human persons’ and given their own bill of rights, it is claimed. [More]
Good. It's about damn time we held those fish murderers accountable.

dolphins are also gang rapists. so i guess they'll all end up in criminal court? or maybe we can't blame them for committing violent acts against each other and against humans, because they're just "a product of their environment."

Wouldn't "giving" them their own bill of rights violate their own right of self-determination, if they are "non-human persons"? Let them write their own.

(However, I don't think rights are transferable between species; a mouse has no right to not be tortured or eaten by a cat. Even so, I wouldn't trust a human who liked to abuse animals.)
