The kid has learned a valuable lesson. Why do some people assume that a kid being afraid of reavers is a bad thing? Do they also assume that a kid being afraid of rabid dogs is a bad thing?

"If he ever has a time where he needs a police officer..." Can't happen. There is no time anyone ever "needs" a reaver, and involving them- in any situation- only makes things worse. They may just show up and kill you.
