The Real Issue Behind the Empire State Building Shootings

The .45.  [Read]

At least that's what The New York Times wants us to believe.

You know, that paper of record that executive editor Jill Abramson says has no bias...?

My initial King Kong reaction hasn't gone away. I want to reshoot the firing machine guns from biplanes scene from the point of view of the people in building and on the ground...

Related: Several readers have referred me to forums where they discuss how the NYPD re-engineered their Glocks to have a 12-Lb. trigger pull to be more like their old S&Ws--I saw the cite for "'SPECIAL REPORT: FIREARMS' from Law and Order, Vol. 51, No.8 August 2003" as the source for that, but I can't find it online so I emailed the author, who has not replied. But last night on "Armed American Radio," trainer Rob Pincus confirmed the story.

You know this and I know this but, for all uneducated and fear-mongering gun grabbers I would like to present to you this piece of wisdom. The .45 ACP round that was used at the Empire State Building is not some crazy powerful round that can kill dozens of people with one round. The average speed is 900fps (slower that the speed of sound) and the power is approx. 414 ft-lbs. By comparison the diminutive (that means tiny) .22 Magnum flys at over 1800fps and the power is over 430ft-lbs! Sheesh NY Times, fear monger much? Or are you just once again talking out of your "usual" hole.

Again the discussion in the newspaper article is on what would be needed to outlaw the weapon, while completely omitting that killing is already outlawed, with use of the weapon as the means to the end. It is the activity not the tool that is the issue. Outlawing a tool does not prevent the activity as man is very resourceful and will use another tool. Does anyone remember rocks as weapons?

The NYT - New York Trigger - has been around for Glocks for some time now. Not much reengineering, just some new springs.

I had it in mine and preferred it.

So ... The NYT would have us believe that the .40cal or 9mm rounds ( I don't recall reading which caliber pistol NYPD issues) the police were spraying around the pedestrians were not so lethal? And just where did the NYT manage to obtain all its knowledge of ballistics? Probably the same place they get most of the rest of their statistics ...somebody's black hole.
