We're the Only Ones Mystified Enough

“At this point, it’s unclear what the motive was. We’re looking at a variety of possibilities. One of them is an obvious robbery. We’re also looking at the background of the victim, trying to see if there are any disputes that might have resulted in this,” said Anthony Guglielmi, Baltimore City Police spokesperson. [More]
Yeah, gee, whatever could have motivated this? If only there were some clue...

And any chance Jesse or Al will be interested in helping to get some justice and peace...?

There is just no way to know why these things happen... just a random act of violence...

Again in the irony category the ad accompanying this article was a video from Prudential selling life insurance.

So, does an eight-on-one assault involving deadly weapons (shod feet) in downtown Baltimore in broad daylight justify the use of deadly force to stop the assault?

If the public decides to avoid this area as being unsafe and they are denied the means to effectively defend themselves and others from this this type of assault, what will be the economic effect on the area? When the locals start telling the tourists "You do not want to go there without an armed police escort", will attitudes then change? Does it really matter whether there were "any disputes that might have resulted in this"?
If a police officer was on the receiving end of this type of beating, would it be handled differently?

Reckon the assailants were Black? What do they call that quaint passtime they have up north? You know. The one where packs of inner city blacks pick out a random white or yellow or brown guy and beat the snot out of him? Could it be that the game is catching on in Ballmer?

KottaMan, I was thinking much the same thing. I'm reminded of a Western where the Sheriff is holding some miscreant that the local crime boss wants let go. The obligatory mob gathers in the street and the Hero/Sheriff steps out to confront them. Somebody in the crowd yells out something like "You can't kill us ALL, Sheriff!". To which the Hero replies, "No, but I CAN get a few of you. Who wants to be first?"

Jesse and Al would only be interested had the victim shot one of the darling children.
