Wait a minute ... I thought you surrendered ... [Read]

If you read the article rather than just the headline, Glenn's point makes sense and seems less contradictory.

His "surrender" is hyperbolic -- after all, if we was really surrendering he'd quit his show, etc.

I take "surrender" in this context to mean faith is lost in the existing old establishment, so stop fighting to save it. Start something new, believe in something else, invest in what matters.

Yes like John McCain and Lindsey Graham, faith in them is lost, even worthless now than before and all they represent and stand for. From the ashes of this social, economic and political mess, the ideas and ideals of the Founders still stand strong and their banner of freedom and liberty we find lying in the dirt in DC, and now it's being picked up by the likes of Rand Paul and Ted Cruz and hoisted once again upon the standard. Uh oh, but this time it has 57 stars, right Barry?

Yeah - I read neocon, faux "libertarian" Beck's "Surrender Manifesto." I suspect that David did too.

The definition of surrender from Dictionary.com is this:
_____________________________
Verb
Cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority.
Noun
The action of surrendering.
Synonyms
verb. yield - give in - submit - give up - capitulate
noun. capitulation - delivery - resignation

I didn't read where he intended to fight when the jack-boot was on his neck. He's giving up, and placing his trust in God.

Good for him. Trouble is, God lets horrific things happen. I'm reminded of the story of a man, also a firm believer in God:
________________________________
One day it began to rain very heavily, and a big flood came.
The man climbed up on the roof of his house, knowing that he would be OK - God would protect him.

It kept raining and now the water had reached his waist. A boat came by and a guy in the boat said: “Hey, jump in. We will take you with us”.
“No thanks”, said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me”.

It kept on raining and now the water had reached his neck. Another boat came by and a guy in the boat said: “You look like you could need some help. Jump in and we will take you with us”.
“No”, said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me. Don’t worry about me”. The boat sailed away.

It still rained and the water now reached his mouth. A helicopter came by and a guy in the helicopter threw down a rope and said: “Hi there my friend. Climb up. We will rescue you”.
“No”, said the man. “I’m a firm believer in God. He will rescue me. I know he will”. The helicopter flew away.

Finally the man drowned.

When the man died, he entered Heaven and had an interview with God.
After giving a polite greeting and sitting down, the man asked: “Where were you. I waited and waited. I was sure you would rescue me, as I have been a firm believer all my life, and have only done good to others. So where were you when I needed you?”
God scratched his confused looking face and answered: “I don’t get it either. I sent you two boats and a helicopter”.

Now, Beck is content to wait for God to save him, but to take no action except to love and educate his kids and have faith in God. He has free will, and can do as he pleases.
I suspect he won't actually drown, since he's quite successful.

If his point is that the Republic is doomed, he's come to that realization a little late. I remember spending over a decade acting as a Cassandra, but things were just "too good." Now, some folks who treated me like a leper - who just noticed, for example, the 2700 MRAPs, billions of non-Geneva Convention ammo,"personal defense weapons", etc, etc, purchased by our overlords - are asking me what they should do. Perhaps I'll direct them to Beck's "surrender" tome.
