The site I linked to in my Examiner column for downloading the files was The Pirate Bay, which all the majors reporting on this story have also linked to. As for the Examiner site itself, I know a lot of people complain about popup ads and videos on the site, but I never see them because I use adblock, and Vanderboegh and his readers fairly well address that issue here.
I use the Examiner site ever day and run routine scans with McAfee, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, and routinely come up clean.
So Jim from Louisiana, let's get a list of all the malware you had to clean from your machine for two hours and how you affirmed it came from a link associated with me.

I downloaded the latest file versions using that link without any malware problems whatsoever (I've also used Mega without trouble). Me thinks "Jim" is either a bit clueless, or is trying to trick people into believing it's a poison pill.
I ended up with 5 new tool bars and Norton went nuts with two different types of malware, one of which took almost 5 minutes for Norton to clean out. I also now have pop up adds that I've never had before and Norton won't fix.
I'm not attacking Examiner, I'm there a couple of times a day, but Pirate Bay. I'd still like a download of the plastic gun program, but I'm not going to risk having to spend a part of an evening learning how to eleminate pop ups, malware and a rediculous number of new tool bars.
Nor am I attacking you, Mr. Codrea. You are the first place I go to in the morning for gun related news. (And once, for news about myself.)
In retrospect, I should have made the comment on your sight and not Sipsey Street, but frankly I was a bit pissed off last night. My apologies for not doing that.

Just realized you asked for specifics. In addition to all the tool bars, something called dalplyie.dll and dealplyupdatereve.exe attempted to invade my computer on multiple occasions just after I tried to download from Pirate Bay. In addition, something called iLivid was downloaded without my permission and I had to delete it.
Following my clean up, I went to the Daily Caller and had that site blocked as having been hijacked, which has never happened before.
I'm still having pop up issues, which I haven't had before and that started following my visit to Pirate Bay.
And to stop the snickers, I didn't check out the porn that was advertised on either side of the download. Cartoon characters being serviced by machines is not a fetish of mine.
I'm not particularly computer saavy, but hope this clears things up.

To be clear: None of these came from Examiner and you believe they came from The Pirate Bay, is that correct?
Yes, everything that happened was from Pirate Bay. I didn't mean to give any other impression and I'll make sure I clear that up over on Sipsey Street as well.
Examiner can be annoying with their pop=ups, but they need to pay the bills so I tolerate it.

My security software went NUTS over at Pirate Bay. My logs show 14 different attacks/exploits were attempted on my computer. I'm running adblock, noscript, do not track, AVG Blocker,ghostery and a few others but those are my main ones.
Removed Pirate Bay link from my column. Jim, please make sure you clear it up on Say Uncle that the problem is NOT with Examiner. That's what prompted my immediate reaction, and having that impression out there could be tremendously damaging. Thanks.
A random internet article mentioned that something was amiss with an ad server from the pirate bay.

Just a note here: I AM a computer security engineer and have been for - damn, I'm getting old! - over 30 years now.
I - ahem - occasionally visit Pirate Bay and have never had issues, never gotten any alerts (from that site) and I alrady have a copy of the CADfiles. But I just pulled down a copy off the Bay, with no issues.
The file tests clean.
However, PirateBay.se, PirateBay.com, PirateBay.org, PirateBay.sx, etc, etc all require the use of a torrent downloader. The site also offers a big Download button, which is NOT the torrent download.
Visit the site and review. Download the torrent, not the offered download under the big button.
