Letters to the Editor

Here's one dealing with the proposed tyranny in Burlington. [More]

When was the last time you wrote one.

Ever?

Why? Is your local paper too "pro-gun" as it is?

If you know enough to post comments on blogs, boards and social media, you know enough to spread a message that may be new to a less-specialized readership.

After dozens of attempts at letters to the Arizona Republic, proofed and edited by a really great English teacher, I rarely make an attempt anymore. But I've made many attempts. I've even read letters that didn't address the issues as well as mine than mine that were published instead.

They're not likely to publish anything from me. And I'm not willing to edit the facts just to get a letter published.

It may have a little something to do with the fact that I kept sending info regarding F&F - like the data compiled for Authorized Journalists, from the WOG website, to their "news tips" link - and mentioning to them that they were studiously ignoring something huge that happened in their own back yard.

Apparently, authorized urinalists don't like it when a reader actually knows what's going on, and directs them to accurate information from a non-authorized, actual journalist. (I even edited out the profanity in those messages.)

My attempts at letters to the editor to the Republic, regarding any issue, are now pretty rare.

I get a bigger audience sending them to friends.

I had the opposite experience before I started publishing on my own. One of the things that encouraged me to start doing this is the very first two letters to the editor I ever wrote were published by each of the papers (LA Times and Daily Breeze) on the same day.
