We're the Only Ones More Concerned Enough

"Every time our officer stops someone, there is concern someone has a gun. Now we have to be more concerned about who has a gun," he said. [More]
Hey, if you can't do the job, quit, whiner.

In re the Timmons quote stirring up so much outrage, as big of an authoritarian mudhead as the guy obviously is, in the video he said "automobile is not part of your home," not "your automobile is not your property," as the "real reporter" wrote.  I believe the simplest explanation is carelessness/laziness on the part of the "Authorized Journalist."

UPDATE:  This version has the written quote matching a more complete video quote:
"I don't think this has anything to do with the second amendment rights when you have the right to carry a weapon off your property," said Executive Director of the Alabama Sheriffs' Association, Bobby Timmons.  "An automobile is not a part of your home. It's a part of the public property."
Funny thing about the ASA--guess what they prominently display on their website?

Why did the alarm on my Weaselword Detector just go off?

  1. Maybe the cowardly armed predators could weigh a lot more carefully whether stopping someone is really worth it, then. Most "traffic stops" are ridiculous. Very few "speeders" are causing any danger whatsoever, and most other stops are more "fishing expeditions" than anything else. Anything that reduces that number is a good thing. Might even cut down on the number of cops "needed".

Also, the anti-liberty idiots are arguing against themselves: "The loss of permit fees could mean fewer bullet resistant vests, patrol cars, and other equipment to keep people safe [sic]. In Etowah County, some of that money pays for school resource officers."
I'd love for all those things to go away. Their idea of "safetyness" isn't mine. Cops are a public nuisance, not a necessity for "safety".

  2. I suspect selective editing on the video. I viewed a report on another station that had video of the quote verbatim.

I will find it eventually because unfortunately we're held to a stricter standard of proving our arguments than the other side.

  3. Any time I am stopped by the police I fear the ASSHOLE with a gun.

Police in AZ and other "free states" seem to be able to cope with an armed populace - They start by being polite and respectful.

In kalifornia the police - (knowing you are most likely unarmed) are rude, authoritarian bullies.

If you can't handle free people - don't take the job.....ASSHOLE

We read every day about police abusing their authority. When things get bad enough people will recognize police as badged bullies and start shooting first rather than suffer discretionary police abuse.

It is up to the police to reform their ranks and prevent this escalation otherwise there is no "officer safety"

Officer safety is promoted by respecting the citizenry not beating, robbing, murdering them and killing their dogs.

Officer safety would be promoted by honest investigation and criminal punishment of abusive and murdering cops.

It is time to know where every government employee keeps their families.

  4. Thanks, David. The WAFF site won't come up on my phone and I ran out of time to keep digging at home.
