We're the Only Ones Tipping the Tipster Enough

The helpful 911 caller who found an armed suspect’s car became the victim as Washington state cops shot him in the leg. [More]
I'm not sure I get why the victim fired a shot of his own if he expected to deescalate the situation, but it evidently got their attention and gave everyone pause, and the story says he was released after being hospitalized.

He returned fire because criminals were trying to murder him. The badges on the criminals' chests were totally irrelevant to the situation.

Fascinating! Individual the cops were shooting at fired back...and they stopped to evaluate the situation. What's wrong with this picture? Cops shoot at someone they consider an "armed suspect", and are shocked (shocked, I say!) when he shoots back! This was so unexpected that it literally stopped them in their tracks! IOW, when they shot at THIS guy, THEY DIDN'T EXPECT HIM TO HAVE A GUN!

Like I said, what's wrong with this picture?
