Vanderboegh speech highlights gun advocate divide

I don't have a crystal ball, but I believe disparaging and dismissing what we saw yesterday will not serve those doing so well, especially since there is nothing you or I can do about dissuading further such demonstrations. [More

It kills me that virtually all of the criticism, the anger, and yes, the hate, incoming on the three percent is coming from within the 'mainstream' of the firearms community in Wa.

It's being skillfully fomented by Alan Gottleib and his spokespersons, mainly Dave Workman, and now Phil Watson:

I myself get shouted down and insulted for my favorable views of Mike and those that choose armed civil disobedience here, even though I voiced misgivings, just as you did.

The same occurs whenever I call out or even question Alan Gottleib's tactics.

He's a demi-god here, a rank I believe he nowhere near rates.

Gun owners, in their desperation to hang on to what they have, have rolled over belly up to the idea of compromise.

I never will. I don't think any of us who understand the future will. I think our numbers will grow, How fast, nobody knows, but you are right. We aren't going away. Ever. The events and the fallout of this weekend have forced me to make a choice, and I'll be in the III side from here on out, warts and all. I began by simply trying to be understanding of their point of view, and formulated a defense. The nastiness of the reaction I received while unpleasant, served to galvanize my thinking.

What's even clearer is that we represent a threat to the gun rights status quo, and the money making machine behind it.

I salute your article, and the delicate diplomacy it represents. But given the outright hostility I encounter, and the control freak nature of of the gun rights hierarchy here, the three percent are going to be left to force the issue as the only recourse left to them.
