Do permits tread on the Second Amendment?

Oh, I dunno... would speech and worship permits tread on the First Amendment? [More]

How about permits protecting from cruel and unusual punishment, or (pick a right, any right)... ?

Absolutely it is an infringement (def: restriction)on the right to keep and bear arms. No court, no politician, no bureaucrat, no law enforcement official, no person can place any restriction on that right. The only way to change 2A is by amending the U.S. Constitution by a vote of two-thirds of both the House of Representatives and the Senate followed by a ratification of three-fourths of the various state legislatures. Second, the Constitution might be amended by a Convention called for this purpose by two-thirds of the state legislatures, if the Convention's proposed amendments are later ratified by three-fourths of the state legislatures.

Why is it that the same people who object to the requirement to show a government issued ID before voting also advocate a government issued license or permit before someone exercises their 2nd Amendment rights?

Changing or eliminating 2A by amendment would not legitimize infringement of RKBA.

Reacher, do you think that the "constitution" is the source of the right to self defense, by any means?

Every living being has absolute authority over his/her own life to defend it. Humans merely have invented various tools to help with the job.

So, why would another amendment to this "constitution" have anything to do with it?
