Taken for Granted

The 2nd Amendment Is Your Concealed Carry Permit [More]
Goddammit, it is not.

It always bugs me when guys with reach spread that line around.

Thanks for the reminder. My life is my concealed carry permit. The Second Amendment merely affirms that the government may not require anything else.

David,

I understand the point -- governments do not grant rights which are natural -- but the 2nd Amendment's role is supporting that right is now substantially strengthened by the Heller and McDonald victories.

Also, a later Chicago case--I believe it was Ezell-- said that both open and concealed carry could not be prohibited, a tacit admission that the 2nd Amendment spoke of the right to carry arms outside the home.

So, yeah, the 2nd isn't our carry permit, it's instead a fence for government fence: here and no farther.
