'Appalling' Doesn't Even Begin to Cover It

Kapos for Kristallnacht
Such sentiments, in the light of Jewish history, are appalling, as are the attitudes that liberal Jews generally bring to the gun control debate. [More]
They're also evil, disgusting, inexcusable, destructive, unforgivable, subversive, irresponsible, dangerous, contemptible, cowardly...

I find it unbelievable. In a conversation with an elderly Jewish couple (@78 years old & staunch Obama supporters) about gun rights and gun control, I pointed out how Andrew Cuomo effectively repealed the second amendment with his NY safe act. Their reply was, "Good, then only the police and military will have guns, like it should be." I pointed out how "Never again" speaks to a right to arms for self defense and the ability to fight for your life - meaning to never be VULNERABLE TO SUCH AN ATROCITY AGAIN. They said, "That can't happen here." I said - you better hope not, because you are voting to put yourselves in the same vulnerable position.

How many times, over the course of Jewish history, have our host countries turned upon us? The fact that most American Jews share this "it can't happen here" mentality is just incredibly naive. Most American Jews share some measure of pride in the Israeli Defense Forces (even if we don't agree on current politics there), but can't fathom the idea of being armed themselves.
