Indeed, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing two instances of being that one deciding vote. My preferred candidate won a town council seat by one vote. A wasteful school tax increase in my town was defeated by one vote. Of course, in true progressive fashion, they just kept putting the school levy up for vote every year until (the fourth time) it finally passed and they got their money. Now, ten years later, the big new school is in danger of closing entirely for insufficient enrollment, in a town where 20 years ago they ran three combined grades per classroom and graduated three to five kids per year. Now they will graduate 0 kids. But hey, our masters always know what’s best for us… um, them.
