The betrayals will continue and spread until there is an effective organized demand to purge the GOP. If that means a Democrat claims the seat for a while, well, no one ever said cancer treatment would be easy, but what's the alternative?

That brings to mind a contagion metaphor. The 'betrayals' are a disease; highly infectious. The Republican Party needs to be inoculated.
Therefore, the GOP desperately needs a vaccine - now.
